How to get 14,644 visitors from digg.com in 8,5 hours: live social bookmarking experiment

First we want to say "Thank you!" to all people who read and enjoyed the research and experiment, commented and digged them. Our "Sorry..." and "Thank you!!!" to digg.com moderators who will deal with the large number of stories like "Nano-mario wants his amazing RIAA photos!" in the next few days.

Here is a link for those who havent' yet read it: http://www.xedant.com/researches/top_422_digg_com_a...

Here is a discussion on digg.com: http://digg.com/technology/_Amazing_,_digg_,_revealed_...

The idea of the research was simple: we analyzed titles of the top stories in order to find out what words are responsible for the highest number of diggs. Many, really many people treat the research in the wrong way. It's not a "magic bullet", there is no way to include a certain word in your title and then get an amazing number of diggs.

It's an attempt to find out topics that are hot on digg.com nowadays. The question is not in the words themselves, it's the story content that matters. Sure, you can get some diggs due to the fact that some readers just love some words. Use "Mac", "Apple" or "iPod" in your title and you will get 2 diggs at least.

You should not offend digg.com readers with the words like "amazing", "best", "cool". Better submit high quality articles and researches that will get many happy readers. Those readers that will not only digg a web site you suggested, but forward a link to their friends.

Our research got many diggs not because it contained some special words in its title, but because we followed 5 easy digg.com rules:
1. Your story must be addressed to digg.com readers.
2. Your story must be interesting to them, not only for you.
3. Your story must be unique. You can generate new content by analyzing an old one, like we did.
4. Your story must be easy to read and understand.
5. Your story must have a great title.

5th rule is the second most important factor in story success. It can promote a good story, however it can't help a poor one.

Just proved that this story isn't interesting to digg.com readers. Undigged. Most part of diggers aren't people who sell something, they are people who look for something interesting to read :)

Here is the number of visitors per hour since article was posted to digg.com:
1st hour: 181 visitors
2nd hour: 4,275 visitors
3rd hour: 3,464 visitors
4th hour: 2,541 visitors
5th hour: 1,528 visitors
6th hour: 1,180 visitors
7th hour: 853 visitors
8th hour: 622 visitors
Total: 14,644 visitors in 8 hours

It's funny that we got no business from these visitors. Good emotions and comments - yes, but no new customers... and we are happy! Sometimes it's just pleasant to see how other people smile :)
